A. San Jose (CA) Obon Festival - 7/11
---
In Japan, the annual Obon festival began as Buddhist commemoration of one's ancestors, whose spirits return to see relatives during the late summer. People perform folk dances (bon odori) outdoors, visit graves, and offer food, as lanterns guide souls home and then float on water to show them the way back to the spirit world.
In America. these Japanese festivals are the largest annual events at Buddhist temples and attract visitors for fun communal celebrations.
